Sunday Oct 3, 2021 attended spectacular LA Opera’s IL TROVATORE to witness final performance by Limmie Pulliam (Manrico) before being replaced by Gregory Kunde. While the Met has shattered their 136 year history with Terrence Blanchard’s ‘Fire Shut Up In My Bones’, LA Opera is also making a huge contribution to diversity in opera. I have never witnessed a more diverse casting of a classic European opera. However, following the performance, Morris Robinson indicated that he has previouusly performed twice in very diverse casting of a classic European opera. Nevertheless, we rise when both new stories from neglected sources (the Met) and when we experience highly talented diverse casting in the great western operas (LA Opera).
LA Opera’s IL TROVATORE cast included Limmie Pulliam (Manrico), Guanqun Yu (Leonora), Raehann Bryce-Davis (Azucena), Vladimir Stoyanov (count Di Luna), Morris Robinson (Ferrando), Tiffany Townsen (Ines), Anthony Ciaramitaro (Ruiz), Orson Van Gay ll.
