All non-music events are FREE. Williams, Architect: a legacy of style By Karen E. Hudson<\/p><\/div>\n<p>LBCAA presented<strong>\u00a0A LEGACY OF STYLE: Works by Paul R. Williams, Architect<\/strong>\u00a0(a lecture and slide presentation by Karen Hudson (granddaughter and author of the book) March 27, 2004 at Pacific Coast Campus of Long Beach City College. The program was a look at the remarkable body of work (including historical structures at the former L.B. Naval Station and homes in Park Estates and Virginia Country Club) by California\u2019s first licensed black architect. Financial assistance was provided by the Port of Long Beach. This program led to the development of a DVD documentary titled PAUL REVERE WILLIAMS: A LEGEND IN ARCHITECTURE produced by Dave Kelly at CSULB and funded by a grant from the Long Beach Navy Memorial Heritage Association. I served as consultant to the production.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_15283\" style=\"width: 202px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15283\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15283\" src=\"http:\/\/musicuntold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/journeytoblackmexico.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"192\" height=\"247\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-15283\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Journey to Black Mexico<\/p><\/div>\n<p>LBCAA\/MusicUNTOLD sponsored 2008 African American History Month exhibit of Ron Wilkins\u00a0<strong>\u201cJourney to Black Mexico: A Photographic Discourse\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0at 2nd City Council Gallery. The exhibit presented images of Black slave descendants who mixed with indigenous and Spanish. Professor Ron Wilkins conducted a youth workshop titled \u201cDeveloping and Sustaining Mutually-Supportive Relationships between Black and Brown Students\u201d. The exhibit was intended to give a broader appreciation of the relationship of Latinos and Blacks and the depth of their shared heritage and history.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_15282\" style=\"width: 216px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15282\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15282\" src=\"http:\/\/musicuntold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Brown_Babies_The_Mischlingskinder_Story_image-206x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"206\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/musicuntold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Brown_Babies_The_Mischlingskinder_Story_image-206x300.jpg 206w, https:\/\/musicuntold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Brown_Babies_The_Mischlingskinder_Story_image.jpg 275w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 206px) 100vw, 206px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-15282\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brown Babies: The Mischlingskinder Story A Regina Griffin Film<\/p><\/div>\n<p>LBCAA\/MusicUNTOLD\u00a0Brown Babies: The Mischlingskinder Story\u00a0followed by Q&amp;A\u00a0with Brown Baby\u00a0Saturday, October 26, 2013, Cultural Alliance of Long Beach.\u00a0<strong>Brown Babies: The Mischlingskinder Story<\/strong>\u00a0reveals a chapter of history few know about. The film presents an era when children born to German women and African-American soldiers were unwanted, ignored and forgotten. Winner of the Best Documentary award at the 2011 American Black Film Festival,\u00a0<strong>Brown Babies: The Mischlingskinder Story<\/strong>\u00a0is a must-see, documentary that poignantly chronicles the lives of the biracial, bicultural children of African American GIs and German women.
